In 1994, Mitch was attending Emory University and nearing the end of his M.B.A. program, while Dave was attending the University of Memphis Law School. Always the entrepreneur, Mitch decided that life on the 50th floor as a financial analyst wasn't for him. For inspiration he looked back at his college business of designing and selling t-shirts to the fraternities, bookstores and students, and decided he could do it again on a much larger scale. He called his brother, proposed the idea and together they strategized what would become Pinnacle Promotions. Within months Dave moved to Atlanta, passed the bar exam, and together they started to lay the groundwork for the company's long-term growth from the bedroom of Mitch's condo.
From the first day they knew they were on to something different. "Everyone we spoke with was unhappy with their current promotional company in some way," remembers Mitch. "All of the companies that we competed against were exactly the same...commissioned reps just hustling to try and make a sale!" This realization brought about a revolutionary idea to create an "Agency" approach to the business. Individual account teams could provide a much better long-term approach to satisfying a client's true needs rather than just quick product sales.
Not only was the Pinnacle approach different from the competition, but their dedication to technology also helped position the brothers to take advantage of the dot-com bubble burst in early 2000. "We saw the potential for using the web as more than just an online brochure from the beginning," says Dave. "From our internal systems to our website we have always been on the cutting edge of technology in this industry." These proprietary systems helped transform Pinnacle from a small, well-run family business into an industry powerhouse within a few short years. "We offer the best of both worlds to our clients," adds Dave. "Our online division helps the individual purchaser who is looking for an established company they can trust to bring them new and unique ideas quicker than they ever thought possible...while our Program Services department can help larger companies better manage their brands, handle their online stores and deal with the complicated issues facing large corporate purchasers."
Over the past 14 years this integrated approach has made Pinnacle one of the fastest growing and most successful companies in the industry.
