Hello, local readers. Once again we’re here with your weekend guide, where we share our favorite things to do in and around Atlanta and point out where you can get free stuff along the way. As always, be sure to add anything we missed in the comments.
Atlanta Summer Beer Fest
Masquerade Music Park. Saturday, 5-10pm. $25-30.
Come enjoy the local flavors of some of Georgia’s most popular breweries — Sweetwater, Terrapin and Red Brick, to name a few. This isn’t just your run-of-the-mill tasting either; enjoy beer pong and flip cup while Stokeswood rocks out on stage. If all that isn’t enough to quench your thirst, stick around for the free after party.
The 48 Hour Film Project
Plaza Theatre. Friday, 7-11 pm; Sunday, 1-9pm. $10 individual, $55 weekend pass.
Last weekend local filmmakers got a line of dialog, prop, character, and genre and took on the challenge of writing, shooting, editing and submitting a film — all within 48 hours. Take in these speedy works of art this weekend at the screening of The 48 Hour Film Project. Support your local talent and view all the entries when you purchase a weekend pass, and get a free t-shirt.
Twilight: Eclipse Lunar Ball
Atlantic Station. Saturday, 6pm. Free.
Twilight fans, this one is for you. The Twilight Night Fan Festival, hosted by radio station Q100, kicks off at 6 pm, featuring a costume contest, giveaways and games. You can get a “Twi-too” to profess your allegiance to Team Edward or Team Jacob, as well as venture into a fanged photo booth. Best of all, cast member Daniel Cudmore will be in attendance. Stick around for a special sunset screening of New Moon at 9 pm. The first 200 fans to arrive will receive Twilight promotional gift bags.

Pinkberry Grand Opening
2937 Cobb Parkway SE, Atlanta. Thursday, 6-10pm. Free.
L.A. transplants rejoice. Pinkberry, also known as “Crackberry,” is opening its first Atlanta location today. The frozen yogurt franchise headquartered in Los Angeles will be serving up free yogurt to the sounds of Georgia’s own Black Dominoes.
Mean Girls 2 Open Casting Call
Ernst & Young Building. Saturday, 9am-12pm; Sunday, 11am-2pm. Free.
Be an extra in the upcoming straight-to-DVD sequel Mean Girls 2. Paramount Famous Productions is looking for background talent ages 16 and up, all looks, for the all-Atlanta filming going on this summer. Whether you’re looking for your 15 minutes or just don’t have anything better to do this weekend, we can bet it will be an experience to remember.
Braves Celebrity Softball Classic
Turner Field. Saturday, 2:30pm. Free with ticket to Saturday’s Braves v. Tigers game.
Watch as Braves alumni Otis Nixon, Dale Murphy, Coach Eddie Perez and more face off against local celebrities in an exhibition game at Turner Field. Then stick around as the Braves take on the Detroit Tigers at 4:05 p.m. Proceeds benefit the Atlanta Braves Foundation, an active supporter of community organizations and events.
Great stuff! I believe Minute-To-Win-It is also holding auditions this Saturday in Atlanta. Could be fun!!!
