Bobby Cox: Honor Retirement with Personalized Photo Albums

Welcome to this week’s edition of “Trending Topic Tuesday,” where we share our take on what’s going on in the world and what promotional products would appropriately (or inappropriately) market the subject matter.

Atlanta Braves’ Manager Bobby Cox ended his career last night with a 3-2 loss over the San Francisco Giants in the first round of the playoffs. As the series came to a close, the Giants tipped their hats to Cox while Braves fans turned their eyes to the jumbotron to watch a video tribute to the retiring manager. Cox has spent more than half of a century in a baseball uniform- as a player, coach, manager and general manager- finishing fourth for the number of regular season wins. Cox is not alone in his decision to retire this year; he is joined by the Chicago Cubs’ Lou Piniella, the New York Yankees’ Joe Torre, and others. For all those retiring this year, whether a Major League Manager or just an average Joe, consider honoring that person’s contributions to your organization with personalized photo frames.

Promotional Toys That Bring Back Childhood Memories

Light Up Yo-YoA co-worker of mine found a YouTube video with the robotic performers from one of my favorite childhood places, Showbiz Pizza. I celebrated several birthdays at Showbiz and I was sad to see it change into Chuck E Cheese. I actually enjoyed watching the robots perform, but also loved getting all the promotional toys as well. What goes around always comes back around, and it seems promotional toys are reverting back to the classics with yo-yo’s and Rubik’s cubes. Even though I won’t be able to take my nieces or nephews to Showbiz Pizza, technology has provided a way for me to see a little nostalgia via the internet videos. So long Billy Bob.

Nobel Prize Leads to New Technology for Custom Radios, Electronics and Cars

Welcome to this week’s edition of “Trending Topic Tuesday,” where we share our take on what’s going on in the world and what promotional products would appropriately (or inappropriately) market the subject matter.

The first Nobel Prize Ceremony, held in 1901 (via NobelPrize.org)

This morning, the 2010 Nobel Prize for physics was awarded to Russian-born scientists Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov for their work with graphene, a form of carbon that is just one atom thick. Graphene is the thinnest material ever to be discovered or extracted and also the strongest and most durable. The discovery of graphene will likely result in faster and higher quality electronics, including computers, custom radios, and touch screen items; in a statement to the press, Nobelprize.org also said that, in the future, cars, airplanes and satellites are likely to be constructed from graphene.
