This is certainly not the first movie to make use of promotional products for public advertisement, but the recent screen adaptation of Elizabeth Gilbert’s best-selling memoir, Eat, Pray, Love, has taken cross-promotional product branding to a whole new level. If you can’t afford to drop your life for a yearlong adventure in self-discovery through Italy, India and Indonesia, then perhaps you can at least indulge yourself in some motion-picture inspired merchandise.

Free Promotional Snacks for Wimpy Kids and Non-Wimpy Kids Alike
The Diary of a Wimpy Kid books and movie (with a sequel tentatively scheduled to hit theaters in March 2011) have experienced a swift journey to success. The wildly successful book series earned author Jeff Kinney a 74 week stint on the New York Times Best Seller list for children’s books, as audiences couldn’t help but fall in love with the books’ relatable protagonist, middle school student Greg Heffley. To generate buzz for the release of the fifth installment in the Wimpy Kid series, publisher Amulet Books, a division of Abrams, is launching a cross-country ice-treat truck bookstore tour. A grand total of 26,000 promotional snacks and 26,000 books are involved with the execution of this nationwide campaign!*
*Please note: I heard about this event after this week’s Weekend Guide had been posted, but at noon tomorrow (Saturday, August 14th), one of two Diary of a Wimpy Kid tour buses begins its two week run with an appearance at Little Shop of Stories in Decatur.

Promotional products for roadside emergencies
My parents have always been very thrifty and when something is broken or doesn’t work, we do it ourselves. This motto has worked for the most part, but it isn’t always convenient and definitely not so when pertaining to vehicles. I have some family relatives borrowing said “unreliable” vehicle and it overheated last night. So there they sit at midnight on the side of the road and my brother and I had to find them. Their emergency flashers were on, but an emergency flashlight such as the Garrity L.E.D. Rechargeable Emergency Auto Lite could have worked perfectly so they could assess the situation and as a signaling device. There are plenty of promotional product emergency kits that could work in similar situations. Luckily we got everyone home safe, to be continued on the car.
King of Pops Secrets to Success: Tasty Treats, Custom T Shirts and Twitter
In a world of Ben and Jerry’s, Coldstone Creamery, and more frozen yogurt shops than I could possibly count on one hand, what does it take to successfully sell frozen treats? Well, just take a look at Steven Carse, who is better known as Atlanta’s own “King of Pops.” Using fresh, local ingredients to create unique flavors such as Grapefruit Mint, Green Apple Lemonade, Mexican Chocolate and my personal favorite, Valencia Orange Basil, Carse has become a local legend. Other startups can take note from the King, who has an avid presence on Twitter, where he shares daily flavors with more than 2500 followers. He also promotes his handcrafted pops with custom t shirts that local readers can purchase when they visit his promotional cooler (see pictures below) at the corner of North Ave. and N. Highland.

Promotional Chocolate for National S’mores Day
Not that chocolate ever really needs a holiday to merit eating it, but in honor of August 10, go ahead and break apart some graham crackers and a Hershey’s bar, open that bag of Kraft Jet-Puffed Marshmallows and light up the campfire (or the stove or the microwave if you have to). Yes today is National S’mores Day and aside from indulging in the campfire treat yourself, you can use it as yet another opportunity to advertise your brand with the promotional chocolate S’mores Kit.
Promotional Games Gear Fans up for ‘Scott Pilgrim’
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, the newest addition to the long list of comics-inspired movies, hits theaters this Friday. If the adorable Michael Cera isn’t enough to get you excited about the film, don’t worry – there’s an app for that! Universal Studios has created a game that is reminiscent of the classic Nintendo game Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out, in which Scott falls in love with his dream girl and must defeat 7 ex-boyfriends to win her over. Promotional games are an incredibly versatile way to get fans excited about a product or event – from iPhone apps to custom chess sets, this sort of marketing is a practically foolproof way to engage an audience. Having put myself in Scott’s shoes and tried to defeat all of Ramona’s exes in the virtual realm will sure have me rooting for him from my seat in the theater this weekend!

Not only is this week Shark Week on the Discovery Channel, as discussed in Kelsey’s post from Monday, but it also happens to be National Simplify Your Life Week. Being a fairly recent college grad, I can’t help but miss the pre-first-day-of-school organizational frenzy, so this week is a perfect excuse to get my life organized. Like a majority of the population, I would classify myself as somewhere between a neat freak and a slob. Aside from using the aesthetically pleasing promotional office products on your desk to de-clutter your workspace, keep reading for a few other tips and tricks to help you eliminate unwanted stressors…
Promotional fitness accessories to avoid gaining the “Freshman 15”
Millions of students are gearing up to either head back to college or go into college as freshman. CBS reported students gain weight gradually, not just the first year. Parents expect their children to go off and prosper by packing in knowledge, not packing on the pounds. Promotional fitness accessories to promote physical activity would be a perfect university welcome gift for incoming students. Fitness promotional products aren’t just your mom’s pedometer anymore, they are almost any product you would find in sporting goods stores ranging from promotional fitness accessories to promotional stability boards. So no more excuses, they don’t even have to leave their dorm room to fit in a quick workout.
