For the past few weeks, Pinnacle has been holding a food drive to benefit the Atlanta Community Food Bank. We set a companywide goal of bringing in 100 non-perishable food items, and with everybody’s cooperation, we were able to exceed our goal by more than 40 items. With the Thanksgiving and holiday season upon us, Pinnacle’s staff members realized the importance of donating food to those local individuals less fortunate than ourselves.

Some of our employees even got their families involved in the initiative, as shown in the above photo of Chloe (6) and Lily (8), the daughters of Pinnacle VP of Sales, Daniel. Daniel and his adorable girls took a trip to the grocery store, reusable grocery bags in tow, to select an array of non-perishables listed by the Food Bank as most needed this time of year because of their high nutritional value. To learn more about Pinnacle’s food drive and to read several shocking statistics that may convince you to hold your own food drive this holiday season, keep reading…

Although most food banks offer to drop off and pick up collection containers for you, Pinnacle had plenty of empty cardboard boxes on hand to accommodate food contributions. We simply announced the drive via email and around the office, set up a tracker to log our daily progress toward meeting our goal, and designated an area of the office to place our boxes for collection. We will be delivering our 144 food items to the Atlanta Community Food Bank this week to help ensure that as many mouths as possible will be fed this winter.

And now for the shocking truth:

-Demand for food is up 35% over previous years.

-32% of the people receiving food have to choose between buying medicine or food.

-39% of the people receiving food have to choose between paying their rent/house payment or buying food.

-Over 20% of children in Georgia live in poverty.

-Over 11% of seniors in Georgia are living in poverty.

-The Atlanta Community Food Bank distributed 25 million pounds of food last year.
