Grab Your Promotional Sunglasses and “Come gather ’round”

Welcome to this week’s edition of “Trending Topic Tuesday,” where we share our take on what’s going on in the world and what promotional products would appropriately (or inappropriately) market the subject matter.

Happy birthday to Bob Dylan. The famed singer-songwriter turns 70 years old today and people all over are taking some time to pay tribute to him and his influence on not only music, but the US civil rights and anti-war movements of his generation.

In honor of Bob Dylan, I suggest you don a pair of promotional sunglasses, styled like the Ray-Ban Wayfarers he prominently wore, and listen to one of his most iconic anthems.

In March of 1966, Playboy Magazine published an interview with Mr. Dylan in which he comments briefly on his trademark glasses:

PLAYBOY: Would you say you still have a rebellious, or punk, quality toward the rest of the world?

DYLAN: Punk quality?

PLAYBOY: Well, you’re still wearing dark sunglasses, right?

DYLAN: Yeah.

PLAYBOY: Is that so people won’t see your eyes?

DYLAN: Actually, it’s just habit-forming after a while, I still do wear dark sunglasses. There is no profound reason for it, I guess. Some kind of insecurity, I don’t know: I like dark sunglasses. Have I had these on through every interview session?

PLAYBOY: Yes. We haven’t seen your eyes yet.

DYLAN: Well, Monday for sure. [The day that PLAYBOY photos were to be taken for the opening page]

Still have your promotional sunglasses on? Here’s that anthem:
