HOToberfest, Rocktoberfest & Rock’n Ribs Fest.

Hello, local readers. Once again we’re here with your weekend guide, where we share our favorite things to do in and around Atlanta and point out where you can get free stuff along the way. As always, be sure to add anything we missed in the comments.

HOToberfest 2010

Glenwood Park Neighborhood. Saturday, 1pm – 8pm. Festival area free; Beer Garten general admission $30 advance/ $40 at the gate; Beer Garten VIP ticket $50 advance/$60 at the gate.

HOToberFest is a “hybrid” event consisting of a free neighborhood festival of live music, sustainability information, kids area, food, art and more, in addition to a ticketed Oktoberfest style Beer Tasting and consumer judged craft beer competition – the nation’s largest consumer-judged competition of craft beers in fact. Participants enter the Beer Garten for a tasting of at least 130 craft beers from around the world and receive a Best Brew Voting Card to rank their favorite beers. In keeping with the primary focus of the event – to promote sustainability – 100% of proceeds from will be donated to Trees Atlanta.

7th Annual Virginia Highlands Rocktoberfest

Limerick Junction and Blind Willie’s. Friday, 5pm – 12am. $5.

Put on your lederhosen and come out to the first Oktoberfest celebration of the year! In addition to live music playing all night long, the 7th Annual Virginia Highlands Rocktoberfest will feature fine German food including brats and weiner schnitzel and a “crazy German dance contest.” Presented by Sam Adams and Jagermeister, this event is sure to be a rockin’ good time.

Opt to Adopt Weekend

PAWS Atlanta. Saturday & Sunday, 10am – 5:30pm. Adoption fees: $100 cats, $175 dogs.

If you’re in the market for a pet of your own, this could be the best time to meet your new BFF. Visit PAWS Atlanta this weekend during the Opt to Adopt event in celebration of Adopt a Dog Month. With each adoption of a cat or dog during the weekend event, you will receive a month of flea and tick preventative, a 5 pound bag of food and other giveaways including cat treats and canine sport bottles. All adoptable pets are screened for temperament and have been vaccinated, microchipped, spayed or neutered and have received flea, tick and heartworm preventative.

East Atlanta Village Pub Crawl

East Atlanta Village. Friday and Saturday, 1pm – 9pm. $10-$22.

The weather has finally cooled down and it is perfect timing for a Pub Crawl! Come on out to East Atlanta Village for the EAV Pub Crawl to help support the businesses and community within it. Over 12 venues are on the schedule and entertainment including DJ’s, fashion and comedy shows, and even flip cup will be just some of the activities to partake in.

3rd Annual Rock’n Ribs Festival

Downtown Lawrenceville. Saturday, 1pm – 9pm. Free.

Attendees at this free event can eat ribs, drink beer, participate in a rib and oyster eating contest, peruse the artists market, play in the kid zone, and listen to live music from a Journey tribute band, all in honor of the Georgia Gwinnett College Grizzlies. There is also a Rock’n Rib Run for Breast Cancer 5k, strategically scheduled for 9am, before the competitive eating commences.

24th Annual Atlanta Airline Collectibles Show

Delta Air Transport Heritage Museum, Historic Hangars 1 & 2. Saturday, 9am – 4pm. $5 for adults; kids 12 and under free.

This Saturday, the Delta Air Transport Heritage Museum will be open to the public for its annual Collectibles Show. Over 50 vendors will be in attendance selling aviation-themed promotional products, such as playing cards and model airplanes, and you can even tour the interior of The Spirit of Delta B-767. Several other historic aircraft will be on display, and aviation aficionados of all ages can enjoy perusing exhibits showcasing the past eighty years of aviation history.
