Welcome to this week’s edition of “Trending Topic Tuesday,” where we share our take on what’s going on in the world and what promotional products would appropriately (or inappropriately) market the subject matter.
A man formerly known as Douglas Allen Smith, Jr. has legally changed his name to Captain Awesome, inspired by the nickname of a character on the NBC television Chuck. Awesome, 27, of Eugene, Oregon, was forced to go before a judge to receive approval for the formal name change upon swearing that this conversion was not for fraudulent reasons.
Awesome happens to be currently unemployed, which is fortunate for whatever employer would have had to explain the request for a new promotional name badge with the unique inscription on front – which wouldn’t even be Captain Awesome.
Yes, Awesome also got the judge to allow him to sign his name as a right arrow, a smily face and a left arrow. His bank, however, is refusing to accept the signature due to its ability to be too easily forged.
