Trade Show season is coming!

Tradeshow season is coming!

When the holidays come to a close, most businesses can count on one thing: the start of tradeshow season. January brings with it some of the largest and innovative tradeshows of the year. Starting with CES and PPAI in Las Vegas and rolling into car shows, boat shows, and wedding shows that will eventually dominate the spring. There are almost 1,000 tradeshows in January alone across the United States.

Ido Leffler recently wrote a stellar blog post on tradeshows, “How to Dominate Any Tradeshow, and Why Even Solo Entrepreneurs Should Try.” Leffler focuses on two main points:
…People want two things:
• They want to be entertained.
• They want free stuff.

Leffler explains that you can entertain people in a number of ways. First, by exhibiting a creative booth space. Something more than just a folding table. And then, it is imperative that you give people your time. Screen shot 2013-12-18 at 9.52.29 AM

As for the free stuff, Leffler states that this is “Manifesto Rule Numero Uno.”

“Turn the convention hall into a walking billboard about you and your brand. Conventioneers love tote bags. Why? Because there are tons and tons of free stuff to be had, and after about two hours they are going to need something to carry the swag in. We always order thousands of great tote bags. No cheap paper or thin cotton for us. Our bags are big, bright, and unique, and by day two we try to make sure that every single person in the hall is carrying one. Be shameless and be fun. Slap your logo on the bag, add some bright colors, and make sure that people instinctively smile when they see it. Have tons of product to give away at the booth, and give it away freely. Don’t be one of those guys withholding the good stuff for the “big guys.” Instead, be the guy with the product that everyone is using and talking about. Freely distributing swag (even if it costs you) is in your best interests; you want those walking adverts wandering the convention.”

Last year, promotional reusable bags and customized cinch bags were top-sellers for Pinnacle Promotions. They are great surfaces for your corporate logo, and you can guarantee that all the other items that people collect at the tradeshow will then be stuffed inside YOUR bag. As Leffler states, they are going to need a place to keep all the other swag!Screen shot 2013-12-18 at 9.34.45 AM

Humor is another way to get people to remember your name. The Learning Revolution, by Gordon Dryden and Dr. Jeannette Vos explains that one of the keys to memory is emotion. Make them laugh, make them smile, and they will remember you. The blah blah blah is always popular for every type of tradeshow because it makes people smile, and could possibly help to spark a conversation.

The best gift I ever received was…

The best gift I ever received was…

Pinnacle Promotions is hosting a contest to give away our top picks for Holiday Thank You Gifts. I am ineligible to enter.
facebook_holiday-giveaway_2013_page2-v3

However, I still want to have the chance to tell everyone about the best present I ever received.

I am a life-long Houston Oiler fan, who has converted into a Houston Texans fan. Three years ago, my husband gave me tickets to the Houston Texans vs. Tennessee Titans football game in Nashville, only a few hours from where I live. I had never before been to an Oilers or Texans football game, home or away.

GameFrametasticMy husband purchased amazing seats to the December game. He booked a beautiful hotel in the heart of Nashville. Who just happened to be staying at the hotel? Why, the Houston Texans team, staff and flight crew were all staying at the hotel. By chance, we became fast friends with the flight crew before we even knew who they were. That friendship led to player introductions, too-numerous-to-count photos, sideline passes and life-long friendships.

While Pinnacle Promotions is not giving away tickets to the Texans-Titans football game, we are giving away a fabulous gift pack of items from our top picks of promotional, customized Thank You Gifts for end of the year giving.

What is the best gift you ever received?

Are You a Promo Hoarder?

According to the European Promotional Products Association, a whopping 91% of consumers keep a promotional product in their kitchen. This was surprising to me, until I realized that the EPPA was talking about me. Not only do I do this, but also I might be a promotional product hoarder.promfi infographic_11f1ec510dbe285b39baca0385b3afef

The best burger place in the Dallas-Fort Worth area is called Scotty P’s. There are six locations. The menu items are the same at each location, but are named specific to that location. For example, the BBQ burger is called the Watson Burger at the Allen location, and the Warren Burger at the Frisco location based on prominent members of those communities.

It’s not just the food that draws you to Scotty P’s. For years, they gave a plastic cup with each drink purchase. scottypsThere was no upsell attached to the cup. You bought a drink; you got a cup with their logo imprinted on it. As loyal customers, we have more than one Scotty P’s cup. The Pink cup during October was especially sought after.  Some restaurants maintain arrangements with their drink brand to provide promotional cups. These cups are usually co-branded with the restaurant logo and the drink brand logo. The Scotty P’s cups are just branded with their corporate logo.

Inspired by the EPPA statistics, I decided to take a look around the kitchen. After further review, I decided I might be a promo hoarder. I own more than 30+ Scotty P’s cups. And, I don’t even live in Texas any longer.

Are you one of the 55% of people who keep a promotional product in your bedroom? Are you one of the 25% of people who use a promotional pen in the home or office?  Tell us: Are you a promotional products hoarder?

Megan’s Product Pick of the Week: the Vanessa Bracelet & Stylus

Currently I am drawn toward promotional products that assist with technology. Everyday essentials such as iPad sleeves, Bluetooth enabled speakers, checkpoint friendly computer bags and battery power sticks help us make it thru our busy days. The smallest gadget, like a stylus helps the user navigate their tablet or smartphone without fumbling or making fingerprints on their screen.

And I have seen a lot of unique styluses out there. Models that have a screen cleaner embedded in the case, pen/stylus combos, and even a pen/stylus/highlighter combo! When I discovered the Vanessa bracelet/stylus I was wowed. A rubberized bracelet that has a stylus tip and that can triple as a bookmark? So cool!

The modern colors and sleek material are not to be ignored. My favorite is the green. Choose from 6 PMS shades to coordinate with your logo. This product would be unique and cost effective to mail to your favorite customers! They will be wearing your brand around town! Up to 3 colors can be screen printed on the center of the band.

Check out the Vanessa Stylus & Bracelet and our stylus offerings here.

The Low-Down on Loyalty Programs

“Loyalty” is one of these buzz words that marketers cannot escape.

In the most literal sense of the word, “loyalty” implies that a person or group of people is faithful to another person, country, group, or cause. For the business world, “loyalty” alludes to the fact that a brand’s customers will choose its offerings, despite being faced with a slew of competing choices. Whether customers remain loyal because of low prices, convenience, superior service, and/or exceptional products or services, some element that they weight heavily in the purchasing process stands out in their minds and warrants a commitment.

Think about the last time you took a vacation. How many opportunities did you have to sign up for loyalty programs from the time that your trip started ‘til your safe return home? From air travel loyalty programs to car rental loyalty programs and hotel stay rewards, the vast majority of travel and hospitality providers offer some kind of incentive program for repeat customers. Granted, these large corporations have the luxury of enormous volumes of data about their clients and skilled analysts with the know-how to analyze that data. For smaller companies with access to far less data and limited analytical resources, the elaborate loyalty programs manned by these powerhouses may be impossible to replicate.

However, a loyalty program does not need to be complex in order to drive repeat business. The tiers of a loyalty program can be based on factors as straightforward as “dollars spent in a given year” or “number of purchases in a given month.” Any way you can segment your customers could be the foundation for a loyalty program, and you can even start as small as a birthday reward program (see my post about Birthday Benefits)- all you need is record of your customers’ birthday months and days.

Offering rebates, rewards points, exclusive events, promotional giveaways and educational resources can also help you to increase customer loyalty. For optimal results, keep it simple; chances are good that your end users already belong to a number of other loyalty programs. Your program will resonate in their minds if you communicate clearly what the requirements are and how opting in now will benefit them in the long-run.

By dedicating time, energy, and money to building a loyalty program, your company will be one step closer to retaining loyal customers who will support and advocate for your brand in a highly competitive global marketplace.

Treat VIPs to Exclusive Events, Perks, & Promotional Giveaways This Holiday Season

V.I.P… “Very Important Person,” or for the purposes of this blog post, “Very Important Prospect.” Who doesn’t enjoy feeling wanted and appreciated? Particularly around the holidays, when mass marketing permeates consumers’ mailboxes, inboxes, and minds, crafty marketers understand that segmentation can mean the difference between a stellar campaign and a mediocre one. By isolating the prospects who exhibit the characteristics of current valued customers and demonstrating through your promotional giveaways campaign how badly you want their business, you stand a much greater chance of securing their loyalty.

As a cardholder at a popular national department store, I was invited, along with a guest, to attend a “Private Shopping Event” Sunday night. Personalized invitation in hand, I approached the door after regular business hours to take part in the exclusive activity.

Salespeople manned the door to check peoples’ names off the guest list, and a station was set up for guests to receive empty cosmetic jars for complimentary makeup samples and other promotional giveaways. From the moment I walked in the door, I felt like a true VIP. A fully stocked bar had been erected on one side of the store, and the champagne flowed until late into the night. Decadent sweets, like popsicles, cake pops, and candy, were available throughout the shop’s various departments. The kicker? For the entire duration of the event, shoppers received 10x the rewards points on our store credit cards! It took a great deal of restraint not to splurge on unnecessary holiday gifts for loved ones (and myself!), but as a marketer, I kept reminding myself of the objectives of the event- 1) for the store to make money, 2) to secure loyalty of existing customers, and 3) to encourage prospects to open their own credit cards with the store.

While most of the attendees walked away with arms full of shopping bags, I was content to take home my one small purchase, along with a handbag full of party favors and several store-branded bottles of water. The experience alone was enough to guarantee my loyalty to the store for a long time to come, and I learned a valuable lesson about the power of VIP treatment. I was certainly not the invitee who spent the most over the previous calendar year, but I have been a long-time customer and appreciate perks like exclusive events.

It may seem easier to identify top-tier clients based on historic buying patterns, but taking the extra time to study customers with the potential to become top-tier clients may be well worth the investment. Nurturing those relationships can lead to the creation of brand ambassadors who not only frequent your store themselves, but who sing your praises to their friends, family, and colleagues, in turn driving a continuous flow of prospects right to your doorstep.

During March Madness, Promotional Giveaways Unite a Team without Decreasing Productivity

You might be ready for March Madness, but is your office?

Across the country, many workplaces are already abuzz with gossip about first round games, which began yesterday. Moreover, sources estimate that the United State economy will loose $1.8 billion to wasted productivity throughout the course of this week alone. Rather than working on projects as they should, employees in all industries will spend a portion of their time filling out brackets, vying for a spot in front of an office TV (or streaming highlights of a game online), and chatting with their co-workers about game results and bracket scores.

The upside is that all of this March Madness frenzy leads to increased employee morale, in part because the game day discussions serve as a unifying force. While the NCAA tournament is certainly fun, organizations across the country can distribute promotional giveaways to unite their employees without decreasing productivity. Consider giving wearable promotional giveaways that employees can use to show support for their favorite team – and your company. Continue reading →
