I am a huge, huge fan of the HBO original series True Blood. The third season premieres this weekend and I almost can’t contain my excitement. Due to the popularity of the show, I have seen an increase in logo apparel and promotional products in the retail market. I have even been tempted to purchase a custom promotional t-shirt modeled after what the main character, Sookie, wears at her waitress job at Merlotte’s. The most elaborate promotional campaign however involves a “beverage”.Tru Blood is the synthetic blood drink that was created so the vampires wouldn’t require to kill humans to sustain themselves. Their marketing campaign went beyond standard promotional product giveaways and promo spots by using fake blogs, viral videos, petitioning street teams and direct marketing to bars with “Fangbanger” girls. The entire concept was to make this launch look as realistic as possible and gain a following even before the series started almost 2 years ago. I must say, I have been “glamored”.
I admit, I’ve been looking foward to season 3 as well. I just had the chance to see Jace Everett (singer of the theme song) in concert last week…
And I bought a promo t-shirt. I don’t think many people are immune. :)
